Game 2 is over and it's another close one -- again JOSHUA KREITZER
squeaks out a win, this time by 3 points over Dan. But not the same
Dan as last time! Hearty congratulations to Joshua, anyway!

> who was believed to possess healing powers. One wall is covered

St. Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal (in Montreal; "St. Joseph's"
was sufficient).

> until the border between Canada and the US was established.
> They are now joined by the International Bridge. What is the
> name of both cities?

Sault Ste. Marie. 4 for Dan Tilque and Joshua.

> 3. Church St. in Toronto was named after a predecessor of what
> present-day church at the corner with King St.?

Cathedral Church of St. James. ("St. James" was sufficient.)

> the name of this business?

St-Hubert. (BBQ chicken chain.)

> 5. What is the name of the 1992 TV miniseries that shared the

"The Boys of St. Vincent".

> of Canada in 1920. What is the name of this site?

Ste. Marie among the Hurons (or Ste-Marie-au-pays-des-Hurons; full
answer required).

> right to grant its own degrees, making it the only independent

Mt. St. Vincent University.

> comes from the feast day of the saint on which Champlain first
> saw and named the river which shares its name. What is the
> name of the city?

St. John (New Brunswick). 4 for Dan Tilque.

> 9. Known as the "Man from St-Malo", he was the first European to
> map and describe the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the shores of
> the St. Lawrence River. What was this man's name?

Jacques Cartier. 4 for Dan Tilque and Dan Blum.

> 10. Why was the ship St. Louis denied entry to Canada on 1939-06-07?

Canada refused to accept its passengers, 900-plus Jewish refugees
seeking asylum from Nazi persecution. "Jewish" was required, and
"refugees" or similar was required for full points. 4 for Joshua.
3 for Dan Tilque, Pete, and Marc.

Not one of Canada's shining moments, for sure, but Canada wasn't
alone. The passengers had already been refused admission to Cuba
and the US.

This international reaction was exactly what the Germans had been
anticipating when they allowed the ship to leave in the first place.
In the end it returned to Europe, where four countries agreed to
accept the passengers -- but three of those countries were under
German control by 1940, and over 250 of the refugees ended up dying
in concentration camps. In 1976 the events were dramatized in the
movie "Voyage of the Damned".

> D1. "Star Wars Episode I" was subtitled "The Phantom Menace".
> What was the subtitle of Episode II?

"The Clone Wars" was the title of a movie and TV series, both
animated, that came between after Episodes II and III.

> D2. The first "Lord of the Rings" movie was subtitled "The
> Fellowship of the Ring" What was the second movie's

"The Two Towers", same as in the original books -- although not
referring to the same two towers. 4 for everyone.

In both versions one of the title towers is Orthanc, which Saruman
took possession of before he was corrupted by Sauron. In the original
book the other tower is Minas Morgul, which had been captured from
Gondor for Sauron by the Nazgūl 1,000 years earlier; but in the
movie it's Barad-dūr, Sauron's own fortress in Mordor.
