sharing it:
Which is the only state to be used for the name of a Swedish pizza?

Which in turn reminds me of a long-ago series of TV commercials for a
drink called Hawaiian Punch <http://www.hawaiianpunch.com>. Each one
would end with this cartoon character asking the question that appears
in this image:

The other person would say "Sure", and, of course, he'd punch them.

You understood me correctly. (And I noticed that Marc D gave the same
answer! But of course, since the area is given, there is no ambiguity
anyway.)

150 - Pete
394 - *** Correct Answer ***
401 - Mark Brader
472 - Dan Tilque
There is some doubt about the exact year, but most say 392-394. See Mark Brader's other post for more details.
Pete is eliminated.

This contest is now open to Mark Brader and Dan Tilque.
You have 72 hours to answer, however a nor'easter is heading this way and I may not be able to get online after it hits later tonight. So if you are able to enter sooner, please do so. I will check regularly for your answers while I
am able. (Just to be clear, we are expecting to lose power completely in the
next 24 hours and to not get it back for several days. I am really hopeful that
they are wrong in their predictions, but I have prepared for the worst.)
For the final round, I have 2 questions. The 2nd question is the tie breaker and will *not* be used if there is a clear victor based on just the 1st question.
This is what happens when I randomize the questions and an easy one ends up
near the bottom.
***
#11. Bernard L. Madoff was sentenced to the maximum time in prison for his Ponzi
Scheme crimes. How many years did Bernie get?
***
tie breaker
***
#12. The Tonight Show has had numerous hosts since it debuted in September
1954, the most famous of which was Johnny Carson. How many episodes did
he host?
***
swp
p.s. the unused question on the slate follows, enter for fun if you like:
#13. Mount Wai'ale'ale in Hawaii had a record rainfall in 1982. How many inches?

It's only easy if you know the answer, which I do not. So here's a guess.

I was surprised to find that Mark's current rare entries contest had a question
about the Tonight Show, but since this question and his were only tangentially
related I decided that there wasn't a conflict here. And it didn't matter in
the end.

683 inches (aka ~17300 mm)
<drum roll>The tie breaker was not necessary, as a clear winner has emerged.
A combination of luck, knowledge, and gritty determination has allowed him to
prevail over a good field of players. And the winner is...</drum roll>
Mark Brader! Mark Brader is the winner!! Well done, sir!
Thank you to all who participated. I will do another one shortly, open to all,
in honor of the fact that I still have power despite the nor'easter dumping
over 14 inches of snow and now sleet for the last 3 hours. Removal activities
will be fun! See ya on the other side folks.

Luck was a significant element. I came near to elimination several times,
and the critical factor in the end was which question was the final one
and which was the tiebreaker.

This contest is open to anyone who wishes to enter. However, after the first
round the contest will be closed to new entrants and only those who have survived
past the previous round will be allowed to continue.
For the first round, I will accept answers for a period of 7 days or until there are no new entrants for a period of at least 24 hours.
The answers to all questions are either discrete numbers or dates.
When giving a date as an answer, please use the format YYYY-MM-DD.
I will convert all answers to a common, previously announced unit of measure
before scoring.
The list of questions is currently set, and has been randomized and sanitized
for your protection. I did not use wikipedia as the source for any of my
answers or questions.
OK, enough babbling. I'm tired and sore from all that snow removal. Let's
