Don't think it was any knight at all. Someone brought it to Spain on
occassion way back then. I did see it today. (And it's been in that
space since 1916, so don't ask what Indiana Jones was up to.)

Who was Peter Banks - not to be confused with Tony Banks, the keyboard
player from Genesis (and given as an answer by someone to this question).

Sorry about the delay in posting this, which was due to a technical
hiccup with the handout.
These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2011-02-28,
and should be interpreted accordingly.
On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days. For further information see
my 2011-05-23 companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (QFTCI5GNM, QFTCI11, QFTCIMM)".
I wrote both of these rounds.
* Game 6, Round 4 - Lab Equipment
To make the logistics easier on this round, on each question we'll
name two or three specific pages of the handout
http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/0604/lab/p1.jpg
http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/0604/lab/p2.jpg
http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/0604/lab/p3.jpg
http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/0604/lab/p4.jpg
and those are the only ones you'll have to look at.
Most of the equipment shown is modern, but some items are the
sort of thing you'd be more likely to see used for lectures or
demonstrations than in an actual research lab, and a few are
outright antiques.
1. On pages 2, 3, and 4... which picture is an Erlenmeyer flask?
2. Pages 3 and 4... which picture is a Bunsen burner?
3. On pages 1 and 2... which one is a Petri ("PEE-tree") dish?
4. On pages 3 and 4... a test tube?
5. Pages 2 and 3... a beaker?
6. Pages 1 and 3... a hose barb?
7. Pages 2 and 4... a pipette?
8. Pages 2 and 4... a burette?
9. Pages 1, 2, and 4... a Crookes radiometer?
10. Pages 1, 3, and 4... an electroscope?
After completing the round, please decide this rot13: Ba dhrfgvba
6, vs lbh nafjrerq 18, 21, 26, be 27, tb onpx naq qrfpevor gur
fcrpvsvp eryrinag cneg bs gur qrivpr.
After you have finished the round, decode the following rot13 if
you'd like to see the remaining items named in alphabetical order.
Identify them if you like for fun, but for no points.
11. Netnaq oheare.
12. Oryy wne.
13. (Obzo) pnybevzrgre.
14. (Fgevat) ryrpgebzrgre.
15. (Pncvyynel) tnyinabfpbcr.

30. Ghovat.
31. Ibygzrgre.
32. Ibyhzrgevp synfx.
33. Jngpu tynff.
34. K-enl ghor.
* Game 6, Round 6 - TV Spouses
We'll name ten American TV shows whose titles each refer to one
person -- either the lead character or the actor or actress playing
the lead character. But, in each case, that character was married.
So your task, of course, is to name the *actor or actress* playing
the *spouse* of the lead character.
1. "The Cosby Show" (1984-92)
2. "Everybody Loves Raymond" (1996-2005)
3. "Roseanne" (1988-97)
4. "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (1961-66)
5. "The King of Queens" (1998-2007)
6. "The Good Wife" (2009 to date)
7. "Father Knows Best" (1954-60)
8. "Make Room for Daddy", also titled "The Danny Thomas Show"
(1953-65). Note: In 1956-57 the title Daddy, played by
Danny Thomas, was a widower, then he remarried; so name the
actress playing *either* his first or his second wife.
9. "The Bob Newhart Show" (1972-78)
10. "Newhart" (1982-90)

21, I guess
(But if 26 were there and 21 were not, I'd have said 26 without

I could picture her, but couldn't think of her name, so I looked it

how is my answer of "they finish first" not what happened? I understand that reaching the final game and winning it are not the same, but I thought I was 'close enough' with my answer.

That would refer to the regular season, not the playoffs. In fact
Boston did finish first in the Northeast Division, but only third
in the Eastern Conference, which are the more relevant level of
standings -- but in any case that has nothing to do with the trade
agreement.

apparently what I meant and what you interpreted it to mean were not the same thing. that's the problem with this medium, where subtlety, nuance and intent are often lost. ah well.

Well, that's apparently because what you said and what you meant were
not the same thing.
And even if this was the Olympics or a knockout tournament in bridge,
where winning the finals *is* equated to finishing first, your answer
would still be wrong, because the criterion was that they made the
finals, not won it.

That's often true.

Recordings #01-25 were from 1955 through 1968
Due 5:00 p.m. EDT (GMT-4), Friday, September 30, 2011
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dreams come true
And if you get too far behind them
Someone else will find them
#01)
Lanterns of gold
Lanterns of blue
Twinkle in the shadows
While I dance with you
#02)
She's spinning like a top
Shimmying with that steady rock
Dipping up and down
And then she go 'round 'round and 'round
#03)
I'm sorry now, so won't you come on back?
Oh-oh-oh-oh, why you wanna break my heart now?
You know that we should never never part
#04)
You've gotta shake your hands all around and around the sky
And then you buzz around the floor
You can do it if you really try
#05)
Baby, my red dress in the cleaners
But my shift will steal the show
Baby, my red dress in the cleaners, child
But my shift will steal the show
Yes, it's fittin', child, it's fittin'
And it ain't the back that's cut too low
#06)
Old Grandpa just made eighty years old
Man, he's crazy about this rock 'n' roll
#07)
Good mornin', captain
Well, good mornin' to you, son
#08)
When the odds are sayin' you'll never win
That's when the grin should start
#09)
One can have a broken heart
Livin' in misery
#10)
Besides the coffee, they brought with 'em
A percolating kind of rhythm
That moves this old town upside down
Manhattan's gone Latin
#11)
You don't know how I feel
You'll never know how I feel
But when I needed you to come around
You always tried to put me down
#12)
Got myself a gal named Sue
Treats me really fine
Yes, she's my baby
And I love her all the time
#13)
While the bluebirds sing their magic song
We will love the summer long
#14)
You're readin' all them high-fashion magazines
The clothes you're wearin', girl, they're causin' public scenes
#15)
And if you'll tell me you're my one girl
You'll make whole life worth living
Just by giving
Your love to me
#16)
When deep down inside you know
She will never want you
No matter what you do
#17)
I would beg and steal (beg and steal)
Just to feel (just to feel)
Your heart (I want your heart)
Beating close to mine (so close to mine)
#18)
Then afterwards we drop into a quiet little place
And have a drink or two
#19)
You make my heart go giddyup
You set the world on fire
You are my one desire
#20)
Wear your hair just for him
#21)
Near the village
The quiet village
#22)
He's got me smilin' when I should be ashamed
Got me laughin' when my heart is in pain
#23)
You'd be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
#24)
Loneliness is a cloak you wear
A deep shade of blue
Is always there
#25)
------------
Tie-Breakers
------------
Go on, baby, do the boogaloo
Do anything you wanna do
Do it, baby, do that shing-a-ling
That Funky Broadway, everything
#T1)
You could make a blind man see
You could make a crippled man walk
You could make the quietest man in the world talk
#T2)

My apologies to Calvin. I completely missed the crucial word "male"
in the original question, so I agree that my answer was quite wrong.
Rob, I imagine it hurts standing on your head. I've turned you right
side up before following up.
