Wikipedia says Ieyasu Tokugaawa became the strongman after a battle in 1600, but was not appointed shogun until 1603, and there had not been a real shogun for some decades. It does not really agree what I've read in books on Japanese history, but I'm not at home to chcek this. In any case, Ieyasu abdicated in 1605, not 1603 as I said. |
