Oh, you're right. Now I see what happened. As is often the case,
Jason's answers were MIME quoted-printable-encoded, so I ran them
through a QP decoder. But when I do that, I habitually do it to the
entire file of answers -- it's easier to do, and if there are no =
signs in anyone else's postings, it'll make no difference.
 
But this time there *were* = signs, on a line by themselves, and when
viewed as QP, of course they went away. Sorry, my carelessness.
Thanks for the correction.
