What to Watch: Monday

- For Sprint Cup teams, vacation time is over.  While a number of NASCAR personalities spent last week relaxing (or in the case of Matt DiBenedetto and Chad Knaus, getting married) it's time to go back to work.  Preparation for Darlington is ongoing.  For the Truck teams, they're returning to the shops in Charlotte this morning.

IndyCar: Scott Dixon Snakes His Fourth Championship at GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma

With heavy hearts, the Verizon IndyCar Series kept Justin Wilson's memory in mind as they took to Sonoma Raceway to settle their series title.  Scott Dixon moved up through the field, pushing through with his Chip Ganassi Racing car and had the cautions fall at the right time for him to claim his third win of the year.  Juan Pablo Montoya finished sixth, hurt from contact with a teammate and the points differential gave Dixon his fourth championship via a tiebreaker (more wins).  Read more

FRONTSTRETCH TRIVIA:

Q:  The 1985 Southern 500 is best known as the race in which Bill Elliott claimed the Winston Million.  To do it, he had to hold off Cale Yarborough.  However, Yarborough was lucky to finish second as a mechanical issue could have put him in the wall.  What happened?

Check back Tuesday for the answer, here in the Frontstretch Newsletter!

Friday's Answer:

Q:  When then-Sears Point Raceway was awarded a Cup Series race in 1989 in order to replace the closing Riverside International Raceway, a number of improvements were required.  What were they?

A: The most notable change was the switching of pit road.  Previously, crews set up on pit road with their backs to turn 11 and drivers pitted on the right side.  For 1989, that setup was flip-flopped.  In addition, much of the track was resurfaced the previous year.
