What to Watch: Monday- Today appears to be a relatively quiet day in the world of NASCAR as teams from the XFINITY and Truck Series return to their shops. The Cup teams (with the exception of Furniture Row Racing) are scheduled to leave tomorrow for the cross country haul to Sonoma.

Despite having a grand total of three laps (during qualifying) in the car prior to the race, Erik Jones outhustled Ryan Blaney and Austin Dillon to win the Owens Corning AttiCat 300 at Chicagoland Speedway. The win gave Jones his second vicrtory of the year and a de facto weekend sweep. Read more
Erik Jones Returns to Victory Lane at Iowa Speedway
After four straight dominant Truck Series performances turned sour by bad luck, Erik Jones finally managed to haul himself to Victory Lane Friday night. He did it being fastest in Iowa Speedway practice, winning all three rounds in qualifying and leading the most laps (112) on the 7/8th-mile short track. Brandon Jones was second, followed by Tyler Reddick, Matt Crafton and debutant Christopher Bell. Read more

Chasing the Chase: Off Week No. 2 Update
by Phil Allaway
by Phil Allaway
Naturally, since the Sprint Cup Series was off last weekend, the points did not change. Harvick still holds the lead that he's had since Phoenix, but his flat tire at Michigan allowed Truex to close the gap down to 15 points. Everyone else in the top 16 gained on Harvick at Michigan, but only Truex is within a full race of the lead.
Point Standings (1-16): 1) Kevin Harvick 576, 2) Martin Truex, Jr. -15, 3) Joey Logano -56, 4) Dale Earnhardt, Jr. -68, 5) Jimmie Johnson -70, 6) Brad Keselowski -96, 7) Jamie McMurray -112, 8) Matt Kenseth -120, 9) Kasey Kahne -129, 10) Jeff Gordon -142, 11) Kurt Busch -150, 12) Paul Menard -155, 13) Denny Hamlin -164, t-14) Carl Edwards -175, t-14) Aric Almirola -175, 16) Ryan Newman -176.
Race Winners: Joey Logano (Daytona), Jimmie Johnson (Atlanta, Texas, Kansas, Dover), Kevin Harvick (Las Vegas, Phoenix), Brad Keselowski (Fontana), Denny Hamlin (Martinsville), Matt Kenseth (Bristol), Kurt Busch (Richmond, Michigan), Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (Talladega), Carl Edwards (Charlotte), Martin Truex, Jr. (Pocono)

Letter of the Race: Sunday's Owens Corning AttiCat 300 was brought to you by the letter "C," for Competitive. Yes, Erik Jones led the most laps and won, but there was a lot of action for position and it certainly wasn't easy for the 19-year-old to win. Just wish that more people could have watched it. - Phil Allaway

FRONTSTRETCH TRIVIA:
Q: If you looked at the results for the 1996 Save Mart Supermarkets 300 at Racing-Reference, you'll notice that Geoff Bodine finished a miserable 40th in his No. 7, nine laps down, but if you scroll down, you'll see that he also DNQ'd for the race. Who qualified the No. 7 in 23rd?
Check back Tuesday for the answer, here in the Frontstretch Newsletter!
Friday's Answer:
Friday's Answer:
Q: Today, Paul Menard is a steady, if unspectacular presence in the Sprint Cup Series. In 2003, Menard was just getting started in the then-Busch Series. At Chicagoland, he had qualified well, but barely got underway before his day came to an end. What happened?
A: Menard was running decently in his Menards/Johns Manville-sponsored Chevrolet, but he simply lost control in turn 1. Menard spun and backed hard into the wall. Behind Menard, Larry Gunselman was hit by Brad Teague and also spun into the wall. Gunselman then hit the stationary Menard as well. Both drivers were OK, but out on the spot. The crash can be seen here.
