Digest for rec.games.trivia@googlegroups.com - 13 updates in 4 topics

msb@vex.net (Mark Brader): Apr 04 10:49AM -0500

These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2015-02-02,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

* Game 4, Round 4 - Miscellaneous - Bad Boyfriends and Godawful
Girlfriends (not to mention Husbands and Wives)

It's almost Valentine's Day, season of love and romance.
Sometimes the sentiments get to us, so here's a round on bad
celebrity romances and marriages.

1. They started out as celebrity sweethearts, but on the night
before the Grammys in 2009, this tattooed R&B singer assaulted
girlfriend Rihanna, leaving her with visible facial injuries
and him with a permanently damaged reputation. Name him.

2. This singer-songwriter is the king of kiss and tell. He
blabbed about his sex life with Jessica Simpson, calling her
"sexual napalm", and held a press conference when he broke up
with Jennifer Aniston. He cheated on Katy Perry, who found
texts to another woman on his phone. Who is he?

3. Record producer Mutt Lange cheated on his country-singer wife
with her best friend. She has since married her now-ex-best-
friend's now-ex-husband. Who is the country singer?

4. In 2011 it was revealed that Arnold Schwarzenegger, then married
to journalist Maria Shriver, had fathered a son with another
woman during his marriage. *What relationship* did this other
woman have to the Schwarzenegger-Shriver family?

5. It's appropriate that this actress starred in "Runaway Bride":
on the day she was marry "Flatliners" co-star Kiefer Sutherland,
she ran away to Dublin with Jason Patric, his buddy and "Lost
Boys" co-star. Who is she?

6. This actress spoiled her fairy-tale romance with "Twilight"
co-star Robert Pattinson when she was photographed snuggling with
her married "Snow White and the Huntsman" director. Who is she?

7. Pretty much every song this pop star writes is about one of
her famous ex-boyfriends: Joe Jonas, John Mayer, Harry Styles.
She says: "If you're horrible to me, I'm going to write a song
about you, and you are not going to like it." Who is this
vengeful star?

8. This British comic, and political rabble-rouser, told wife Katy
Perry about his plans to divorce her via text message. Name him.

9. In 2008, Raffaello Follieri was arrested by federal agents on
charges of cheating investors, money-laundering, and exaggerating
his ties to the Vatican for personal gain. This ended his
romance with what Oscar-winning Hollywood actress?

10. Dean McDermott had an affair while in Toronto hosting the
TV show "Chopped Canada". He went to rehab for sex addiction,
and he and his broken-hearted wife, veterans of several earlier
reality shows, starred in yet another one showing their attempts
to rebuild their shattered marriage. Name his wife.

* Game 4, Round 6 - Entertainment - Super Bowl Half-Time Shows

In each case, give the *full usual stage name* of the relevant
performer or group. (For example, Nat King Cole, not Cole or
Nat Cole.)

1. In 1993, this performer catapulted onto the stage, remained
perfectly still in a clenched-fist pose for 90 seconds while
the crowd cheered, then slowly removed his sunglasses, threw
them away, and launched into a 4-song set, one song backed up
by a children's choir.

2. In 2002, in the Superdome, the half-time show's theme was a
tribute to those killed in the 9/11 attacks. What anthemic
rock band headlined?

3. In 2004, Janet Jackson suffered a notorious "wardrobe
malfunction". Who was she singing with when this happened?

4. This artist's 2007 performance occurred on a stage in the shape
of his symbol. It was ranked by Billboard magazine as the best
Super Bowl half-time show ever.

5. In 2012 Madonna headlined the half-time show, backed up by
Nicki Minaj and this rapper, who provoked controversy by giving
the finger on camera.

6. In 2010, this Florida rock group's half-time set list included
"American Girl" and "Runnin' Down a Dream".

7. In 2013, the headline performer reunited with her bandmates
during the delayed half-time show. Her famous husband did not
make an appearance. Name her.

8. A veteran band headlined the half-time show at Super Bowl XL
in 2006. Introducing one classic song, the lead singer quipped,
"Here's one we could have done at Super Bowl I." Name the band.

9. In last year's Super Bowl, who headlined the half-time show?
He was joined for one song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

10. At Super Bowl XXV in 1991, the half-time show featured New Kids
on the Block and 3,500 local children. But this question is
about the singer who overshadowed them before the game even
started, by giving what is widely regarded as one of the
best-ever renditions of the national anthem. Name that singer.

GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #339 (GOLQ339)

Welcome to the April edition of the quiz. Once again this is an audio quiz;
all the clues are snippets of songs that entered the Billboard charts
between 1955 through 1969.

There is a connecting thread between all the songs that relates to lyrics,
title or artist. In some cases the connection is not immediately obvious,
but if you identify it it will help with the more obscure songs in the
quiz. There are at least two "twofers"; that is there are two (or more)
elements of the thread associated with the snippet.

You may download either the individual mp3 files or a 6.03 MB ZIP file
containing all 27 sound clips at:

http://golq.org/Clips/GOLQ339/GOLQ339.zip

Have fun everybody.
