msb@vex.net (Mark Brader): Mar 29 11:34AM -0500

These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2015-01-26,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

* Game 3, Round 9 - Entertainment - Iconic Fashion Moments in Film

We'll give you the year of the movie, and the director, and a
brief description of its fashion moment. You name the movie.

1. 1970, Arthur Hiller. Ali MacGraw in a preppy wardrobe of woolly
bobble hats, pea coats, and stripey college attire.

2. 1977, Woody Allen. Diane Keaton in menswear-inspired outfits
of baggy trousers, oversized ties, a big black felt hat, and
a black wool Civil War vest with only the top button done up.

3. 1990, Garry Marshall. Julia Roberts in a brown dress with
white polka-dots, complete with matching hat and gloves.

4. 2001, Wes Anderson. Gwyneth Paltrow in Lacoste tennis dresses,
fur coats, vintage bags, and hair barrettes.

5. 1943, Howard Hughes and an uncredited Howard Hawks. Jane

skimpy shirts.

6. 1962, Terence Young. Ursula Andress emerging from the Caribbean
in a white belted bikini.

7. 1955, Billy Wilder. Marilyn Monroe in a halter-neck white dress
blowing up around her legs as she stands over a subway grating.

8. 1961, Blake Edwards. Audrey Hepburn in a little black Givenchy
dress, long black gloves, multi-strand pearls, and sunglasses.

So the trivial Swedish name is "Engelska sjukan" - English Disease. That
did seem like it would be a good answer in this contest, so I used the
other name in Swedish, which sounds Latin and international, so I
thought it would be good for English too. Oh well.

And if you think that's insulting -- there *is no* disease whose common
name in English is "Swedish disease". That is, you're not even important
enough to name one after! :-)
