TriStar Motorsports Annnounces 2015 Lineup
Last week, TriStar Motorsports made a number of announcements that are designed to shore up their plans for the 2015 XFINITY Series season. Firstly, the team announced the reacquistion of Blake Koch's services for the 2015 season. Koch will drive the No. 8 (re-numbered from No. 10) Toyota for the full 33-race season.
Koch is quite happy about having a full-time opportunity for the first time since 2011.
"After a good 2014 season, I am excited to be back with TriStar Motorsports for the 2015 season," Koch said in a press release. "I am looking forward to working with Bruce Cook and the No. 8 crew and can't wait to get to Daytona."
"After a good 2014 season, I am excited to be back with TriStar Motorsports for the 2015 season," Koch said in a press release. "I am looking forward to working with Bruce Cook and the No. 8 crew and can't wait to get to Daytona."
Last season, Koch mostly split his time between the Nos. 10 and 44 for TriStar Motorsports, while also racing for Rick Ware Racing at Bristol in August. Koch attempted 30 races and started 28, failing to qualify at Charlotte in May and withdrawing in July in Daytona due to a crash in qualifying brought on by a thundershower. Koch start-and-parked all his races in the Nos. 10 and 91 Toyotas, but competed fully in the races in the No. 44. Koch's best finish was an 18th at Phoenix in November.
Replacing the departed Eric McClure in the No. 14 will be Cale Conley. Conley, who was ineligible for points in the races he ran for Richard Childress Racing in 2014, will be running for Rookie of the Year. Conley's crew chief will be Eddie Pardue, who served as TriStar Motorsports' Competition Director last season, who will replace Wes Ward on the pit box. Ward will stay with TriStar Motorsports, but will now be the Shop Foreman and will not go on the road.
Mike Bliss will remain in the No. 19 for a fifth consecutive year with Paul Clapprood continuing as his crew chief. The No. 44 does not have a driver announced as of yet, but Dennis Connor will continue as the crew chief. Expect multiple drivers to share the ride for the balance of the season once again.
IMSA Holds Roar Before the 24: DP's Fast Once Again, but P2 Entries More Competitive Than Last Year
Last weekend, the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) held their annual Roar Before the 24, a three-day test session for teams in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge ahead of the season openers for both series. Overall, the best lap of the weekend was set by Jordan Taylor in the No. 10 Konica Minolta-sponsored Chevrolet Corvette DP Evo with a lap of 1:39.181 (129.218 mph). Action Express Racing's No. 5 Chevrolet Corvette DP Evo and Michael Shank Racing's No. 60 Ligier JS P2 aren't far behind. Read more

Q: Back in 2010, South Park infamously satirized NASCAR in the episode "Poor and Stupid." As is the norm for South Park, you had a number of personalities, cars and sponsors depicted somewhat accurately, including the then-new Ford Mustang for the now-XFINITY Series. However, it was not called a Ford Mustang. What was the Mustang referred to as on the show?
Check back next Monday for the answer, here in the Frontstretch Newsletter!

Last Monday's Answer:
Q: The Dakar Rally is run in South America today because terrorist groups registered threats against the race entering Mauritania in 2008 (at the time, the bulk of the competition was held inside of Mauritania), resulting in the race being cancelled the night before it was due to start. However, that was not the first time in which the threat of terrorism affected the race. In 2000, terrorists threatened the race in Niger. However, instead of cancelling the whole race, a different solution was used. What happened?
A: When the threats were made against the race, the organizers cancelled four stages of the race and held a massive airlift that flew all of the competitors, their equipment, and all of the personnel involved with the race from Niger to Libya. The race then continued on to the finish in Cairo, Egypt from Sabha in Western Libya.
