Tyler Walker Pleads Guilty To Felonies in Wake of High Speed Pursuit

On Tuesday, former NASCAR and World of Outlaws racer Tyler Walker pleaded guilty to two third-degree felonies and three misdemeanors under a plea agreement with prosecutors in Washington County, Utah.  The charges stem from a 60 mile high speed pursuit that took place on Interstate 15 between Southern Nevada and Southwestern Utah in January, 2013.  In that chase, Walker, driving a BMW 750iL, drove at speeds up to 150 mph and only stopped after all four tires had been blown out by spike strips, effectively disabling the car.  Once stopped, Walker exited the BMW and attempted a "foot bail" (running away from the police) before he was apprehended.

During a search of the vehicle, methamphetamine was found in the car.  Both Walker and his companion, Raelle Hann McDonald, were placed into custody at the time.  According to The Spectrum (St. George, Utah), McDonald pleaded guilty to drug charges in a separate case and received probation.

Walker's appearance in court only came after the proceedings were delayed a dozen times by Walker's legal team.  The delays were mostly due to Walker spending an extensive amount of time in outpatient drug rehab.  In addition, according to Walker's lawyer, Trevor Terry, Walker had also been working with a neurologist due to the effects of past head injuries.

Regardless of the reasons for the delays, the postponements had frustrated Judge Eric Ludlow, who presided over the hearing.  After the 12th postponement, Ludlow authorized a bench warrant for Walker's arrest in order to force him to appear in court, but no arrest was made.

Walker will be sentenced on February 23.  The felonies involve the failure to stop for an officer and the aforementioned possession of methamphetamine.  He could be sentenced to more than ten years in prison for his crimes.

FRONTSTRETCH TRIVIA:

Q: In the 1987 SunBank 24 at Daytona, Scott Pruett was supposed to race a Mustang Probe GTP car.  However, the car barely lasted an hour before it failed.  Eventually, Pruett moved around like a hot potato to a couple of Roush Racing's GTO Ford Mustangs.  While driving the No. 22 Mustang, Pruett had a very unusual incident in the tri-oval.  What happened?

Check back next Monday for the answer, here in the Frontstretch Newsletter!

Last Monday's Answer:

Q:  In 1993, Jimmy Horton infamously made history when he rolled out of Talladega Superspeedway during the DieHard 500, a ride that completely overshadowed the life-threatening injuries sustained by Stanley Smith in the crash.  Who did Horton claim was the first person to approach him after his Active Trucking Chevrolet came to rest at the bottom of the hill supporting the turn 1 banking?

A:  According to Horton himself, the first person to reach his destroyed Chevrolet Lumina after it came to rest was a random race fan with a drink in his hand.  He was said to have quipped that "...you know you wrecked bad when the first person to you has a beer in his hand."
