NASCAR's Future Still and Will Always Be in the Hands of Fans |
FRONTSTRETCH TRIVIA
Q: Fans of the ChampCar World Series (and its predecessor, CART) may remember the series being synonymous with Lola chassis right up until the end. However, the performance of the Lola chassis went in the toilet at the beginning of 1997 and didn't recover for years. Why did this happen?
Check back Monday for the answer, here in the Frontstretch Newsletter!
Thursday's Answer:
Q: In addition to the controversy surrounding the championship, the 1994 Grand Prix of Australia also marked the last race for the Larrousse team and the Grand Prix debut of Jean-Denis Deletraz. Let's just say that it wasn't the greatest debut for the Frenchman. How long did it take for Michael Schumacher to lap Deletraz?
A: Deletraz qualified the No. 20 Larrousse (he replacing comas by paying for the seat) 25th, 6.243 seconds slower than pole sitter Nigel Mansell and 2.277 seconds slower than teammate Hideki Noda. In the race, Deletraz dropped to the back on the start and was a lap down by lap 9. He lapped the street circuit approximately two seconds slower than anyone on track, eventually retiring with gearbox failure on his 57th lap. At the time, Deletraz was 10 laps down. Even if he had finished the race, Deletraz would not have been classified as a finisher because he would not have finished 90 percent of the leader's distance.
