Nationwide Series: Chase Elliott Claims Third Win of Season
On Saturday night, Chase Elliott led the most laps (85), but found himself second to Trevor Bayne as the laps counted down in Chicagoland. However, the "young gun" found his other gear, running down Bayne, then passing him with 24 laps to go to pull away and claim his third victory of the 2014 Nationwide Series season. Bayne was second, followed by Kyle Larson, Kasey Kahne and Ty Dillon. Elliott also regained the points lead after teammate Regan Smith finished two laps down in 16th, although six drivers remain within 50 points of the top spot. Tony Stewart Returns to Sprint Cars, Wins Immediately
Earlier this year, Tony Stewart was asked during a press conference when and if he planned to return to the cockpit of a Sprint Car. Stewart's reply was essentially that he did plan to return, but that he wouldn't tell anyone when he was going to do it. The media and most race fans would find out on their own.
Well, Stewart's "comeback" officially happened Friday night at Tri-City Motor Speedway in Auburn, Michigan. Despite being out of the car for nearly a year, Stewart showed that he hadn't lost anything. Driving his own No. 14 Rush Travel Centers-sponsored Maxim chassis, Stewart started fifth and moved up the order to second behind Dustin Daggett, who had defeated Stewart earlier in the evening in their heat race.
Daggett appeared to have the better of Stewart in the feature as well, but lapped traffic was crucial. On Lap 19, Daggett jumped the cushion while trying to deal with slower traffic. That allowed Stewart to catch up and make the pass for the win in front of a standing room-only crowd.

Stewart's good form on the loose surface continued on Saturday night. At Crystal Motor Speedway, Stewart finished third behind Randy Hannigan and Daggett. The solid weekend should boost Stewart's confidence on the Cup side, where he remains winless and on the outside of the Chase looking in with seven races left to go in the regular season.
TUSC Driver Changes: Said, Tagliani Out; Burt Frisselle, Hawksworth In
Boris Said has been ruled out of the next two TUDOR United SportsCar Championship races after suffering a broken rib in a practice crash at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. As a result, he will miss the upcoming rounds at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Road America.
So who will sub? Marsh Racing announced just this morning that Burt Frisselle will replace Said in the No. 31 Whelen-sponsored Chevrolet Corvette DP Evo until Said is good to return. Team owner Ted Marsh, in a pinch was happy to have Frisselle available to step in.
"We certainly appreciate Burt stepping in on such short notice," Marsh said in a press release. "Boris is taking some time to recuperate and needs a couple of weeks out of the car, so it's great that Burt was available to join us. He's a quick and experienced guy in these cars and will fit in quickly here. We are working to keep building on every race and having Burt join us will help us continue to move forward with this program."

Said's crash forced Marsh Racing to sit out the last race at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. The car has been repaired since. While not full-time in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship this season, Frisselle (along with brother Brian) has run part-time for Action Express Racing, most recently competing at the Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen last month.
In addition, RSR Racing has announced that Verizon IndyCar Series regular Jack Hawksworth will be in the Prototype Challenge class No. 08 in this Friday's Brickyard Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Hawksworth replaces Alex Tagliani, who is serving a one-race suspension for "unjustifiable risk" following a spin at Watkins Glen in a practice session. Tagliani spun in Turn 10, then dangerously pulled out into traffic, where he was struck by another PC car. It was a very similar incident to one at Sebring in which Tagliani broke his wrist after plowing into an unsighted Gaston Kearby once Kearby pulled a similar move.
RSR Racing owner Paul Gentilozzi was happy with his substitute selection for Indianapolis.
"We looked at a number of drivers to fill this seat. We knew we wanted someone with experience at the Indy road course and Jack certainly fit that requirement given his success," Gentilozzi said. "Given his record, we know he will be fast and will give us 100% every time he gets in the car. We are very pleased to have him with us."

Hawksworth has no experience in sports cars here in North America. However, he did compete in the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis in the Verizon IndyCar Series earlier this year. Hawksworth, a rookie qualified third in the rain, then led 31 laps in the race before dropping back to a seventh-place finish, turning heads in the process.

Q: In 1994, current Verizon IndyCar Series team owner Bryan Herta was a rookie, driving the No. 14 Copenhagen-sponsored Lola for A.J. Foyt. However, the end of Herta's decent rookie campaign came at Toronto. What happened?
A: During a practice session, Herta lost control of his No. 14 and smacked the wall hard exiting Turn 11. The car then slid back across the track and hit the concrete on the other side of the road before coming to rest. The crash can be seen here.
Herta suffered multiple fractures to his pelvis and legs in the crash. In addition, he suffered "...an unspecified neurological injury," according to NBC's Derek Daly. Eddie Cheever was hired to sub for Herta and did well enough to keep the ride for 1995. Herta ended up moving to Target Chip Ganassi Racing in a Scotch-sponsored No. 4 once he returned in time for the season opener in 1995.
