FedEx And Autism Speaks Return For June Dover Race
One of the sport's lone independent tracks has kept one of its major sponsors for 2014. Thursday, it was announced that FedEx, Autism Speaks, and Dover International Speedway have teamed up for the fourth consecutive year. FedEx will return as the title sponsor of the FedEx 400 Benefiting Autism Speaks Sprint Cup Series race on June 1st.
The partnership renewal also comes with the news that, for the third consecutive year, the Autism Speaks Day at the Races will be a part of the June 1st race weekend. This event allows those and their families affected by Autism the opportunity to attend a NASCAR race in a comfortable environment. It's a special ticket package, one that provides seating in a sensory-friendly area within the air-conditioned grandstands of Dover. The deal, the first of its kind on the circuit also includes pre-race appearances by NASCAR drivers and other NASCAR personalities, brief educational programs on race day morning, and much more.
Tickets for this June's Autism Speaks Day at the Race cost $88 for adults and $20 for children 14 and younger. It's a total ($88) that highlights the one in 88 children on the Autism spectrum in the United States.
Tickets may be purchased by calling 1-800-441-RACE or by visiting DoverSpeedway.com.
Rhodes Wins Pole for Bristol K&N Race
Ben Rhodes won his second consecutive "21 Means 21" Pole award, presented by Coors Brewing Company in Thursday's qualifying for Saturday's PittLite 125 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The 17-year-old rookie from Louisville, Kentucky went out 37th of the 38 cars entered for this weekend's race and posted a fast lap of 16.036 seconds (119.656 MPH). That was good enough to knock Brandon Gdovic off the pole. Gdovic posted a lap of 16.045 seconds (119.589 MPH) and will start on the outside of the front row. Austin Hill, Cale Conley, Gray Gaulding, Kenzie Ruston, Cameron Hayley, Lee Pulliam, Matt Tifft, and Jesse Little rounded out the top 10.
Points leader Daniel Suarez qualified 17th for Saturday's race. Suarez, who is the series' hottest driver coming into this week's race, has won the first two K&N Pro Series East events this year as well as the Toyota Mexico Series race at Phoenix.
Green flag for Saturday's PittLite 125 at Bristol Motor Speedway is scheduled for 4:45 PM ET. TV coverage of the event is tentatively scheduled to air March 22nd at 11:30am on FOX Sports 1.
The incidents caused James, an African-American, to eventually run from the law; it was an extensive manhunt, occurring in October of last year where officers needed to guard Keselowski's house for safekeeping. In the end, James was found dead, having committed suicide rather than face those legal troubles.
"There are a lot of others just like me who put everything on the line to try and make it — who burned their ships like Cortes," Keselowski said in his post. "They made those same sacrifices. And a lot of those people didn’t make it. It’s because I’ve been there and sacrificed that I really feel for those people. It’s something I’m mindful of when celebrating a win."

NASCAR To Stream Home Tracks Races Through FansChoice.tv
NASCAR, along with AMA Pro Racing and IMSA, announced this week the launch of FansChoice.tv, a website that will live stream races that are not covered by broadcast television. Officials say the website will provide coverage of select NASCAR touring and weekly series events.
“This really is going to be ‘Fan’s Choice,’” George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president of regional and touring series, said in a press release announcing the "channel." “The partnership between AMA Pro, IMSA and NASCAR means the fans will have access to more racing than ever before. They will be able to choose from a variety of series and tracks, able to follow their favorite drivers virtually wherever they race.”
FansChoice.tv will carry select NASCAR K&N Pro Series, NASCAR Whelen and Whelen Southern Modified Tour races, as well as off-track events such as the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Awards and NASCAR Night of Champions Touring Series Awards in December.
Several NASCAR Whelen All-American Series tracks already have committed to live streaming their weekly events, including Langley Speedway in Hampton, Virginia, Lake County Speedway in Painesville, Ohio, and Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington. Fans will have the ability to select from multiple cameras positioned around the tracks during these events.
One of the concerns expressed is that NASCAR has left out the Canadian Tire Series in their coverage package. However, an addition could be worked out in the future if they were to reach an agreement with NCATS' television partner TSN.
Brittany Force wins RACER Rookie of the Year over Patrick and others
RACER Magazine covers many forms of motorsports and, each year, allows fans to cast their votes for RACER Driver of the Year and RACER Rookie of the Year. A lot of people predicted that Danica Patrick would win the award due to her popularity in NASCAR and motorsports in general.
However, that wasn’t the case as Top Fuel Dragster Brittany Force took the honors. Force won with 78 percent of the votes, ahead of IndyCar rookie Carlos Munoz, who took nine percent in the poll. Munoz debuted in the Indianapolis 500 last year with a second-place finish.
"This is huge,” Force said. “I thought for sure Danica Patrick would win. She's Danica Patrick. NASCAR's fan base is so much larger than NHRA drag racing's, but this just goes to show that we have the best fans.”
With that stated, both Patrick and Stenhouse were part of the other 13 percent of the votes counted for -- albeit well behind Force's total.
Michael McDowell to attempt to make 150th career start
Michael McDowell is hoping to put the No. 95 car in the field for Leavine Family Racing, competing this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. If he does so, it will mark his 150th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start. McDowell is running a partial schedule this year for the small organization as they look to grow the team and start running solidly in the top 20.
So far, in his Cup career McDowell has just one top-10 finish, in the 2013 Daytona 500 and a whopping 114 DNFs. He's start-and-parked for several years before leaving his old ride, the No. 98 owned by Phil Parsons Racing for an opportunity to run the full distance with LFR.

Who's Zooming Who? How the Networks Are To Blame For Poor Ratings
~~~~~~~~~~
FRONTSTRETCH TRIVIA:
Q: The 1992 Food City 500 was the last Winston Cup race held on an asphalt surface at then-Bristol International Raceway. What occurred in this race to precipitate the conversion to concrete in time for the Bud 500 in August?
Check back Monday for the answer here in the Frontstretch Newsletter!
Thursday's Answer:
Q: The 1989 Valleydale Meats 500 was the second Winston Cup race at Bristol to have 20 cautions, mainly due to a combination of new pavement, higher speeds and rain limiting practice time. It was also the first race in which Ernie Irvan was a contender in the series. Irvan, driving the No. 2 Pontiac for D.K. Ulrich, led 56 laps after starting 25th. However, it all went for naught. What put Irvan out of the race?
A: Irvan was leading the race, on Lap 168 when he seemed to blow out a right front tire. The Kroger Pontiac was pitched into the outside wall exiting Turn 4, briefly getting off the ground. Irvan then hit the No. 57 of Hut Stricklin and the No. 15 of Brett Bodine before coming to rest against the inside wall. Eventual race winner Rusty Wallace also got a little damage when he tapped Stricklin. The crash can be seen at the beginning of this clip.
