Happy Thanksgiving American Readers!  We would like to extend a special thank you to each and every one of our readers for your unrelenting dedication throughout this season. Without your support, we wouldn't be writing each and every week, and we couldn't be more appreciative of all your feedback (even when it's bad!).  Have a safe holiday with your friends and family, and we hope you don't suffer too badly from racing withdrawal!

Editor's Note: While the Frontstretch Staff takes some time off to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with their families, no new content will be posted on the website next week. We'll return with driver reviews, beginning Monday, December 2nd. Also, this Newsletter will be the last daily edition until the Sprint Cup Media Tour in January. From this point on, Frontstretch enters into "offseason mode" where our Newsletters scale back to one jam-packed, weekly edition sent out every Monday morning. Enjoy!

Addington to Lead Phoenix Racing

On Thursday Afternoon, Phoenix Racing announced that veteran crew chief Steve Addington will serve as competition director and crew chief for the organization's No. 51 Chevrolet that is expected to compete on a full time basis in the Sprint Cup Series in 2014 under owner Harry Scott, Jr.

"In my opinion Steve is the perfect guy for the job," said Scott. "He is part of the Chevrolet family, the Hendrick family and I feel fortunate that he is now part of our family."

Addington in his 10 year career as a crew chief in the Sprint Cup Series has 20 wins, 66 top 5's, and 105 top-10 finishes, and he has worked with some of the biggest names that the Cup Series has to offer.

In 2008, Addington guided Kyle Busch to eight victories that included a stretch of seven wins in 14 races that season at varied tracks such as Darlington, Daytona, and Dover. During the 2010 and 2011 seasons, Addington worked with 2004 Cup Series champion Kurt Busch and the duo would win four races together most notably the 2010 All Star Race at Charlotte. Most recently Addington was on top of the pit box for three-time champion Tony Stewart.

"I am thrilled to be part of the Phoenix Racing team and working with Harry," said Addington. "Harry has a vision to make this team a championship contender and I am excited to be part of it."

While a driver has yet to be announced for Phoenix Racing in 2014 it is widely believed that Justin Allgaier will be tabbed for that seat with Brandt coming on as the primary sponsor. Allgaier made four starts behind the wheel of the No. 51 Chevrolet this season and posted a best finish of 24th at Talladega.

Battle at the Beach to Return at Daytona

The UNOH Battle at the Beach short track event, held at the world famous Daytona International Speedway for the first time this past season, will return to the historic 2.5-mile oval as part of Budweiser Speedweeks 2014 on Tuesday, February 18th.

The action-packed day of racing will include practice, qualifying, and two 150 lap events featuring the K&N Pro Series East and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

For the K&N Pro Series East, their 150 lap event will serve as a championship points event, while it will be a non points events for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

"The UNOH Battle At The Beach is a great opportunity for short track racers from around the country to compete on racing's biggest stage," Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood, III said. "We're looking forward to some intense competition with two exciting main events."

In last year's inaugural Battle, Cameron Hayley won the K&N Pro Series race while Cup Series veteran Steve Park would score his first Daytona win in the Whelen Modified race.

JRM and Pinnacle Foods Reach Sponsorship Agreement

JR Motorsports announced on Thursday Morning a new addition to their sponsor lineup for the 2014 Nationwide Series season. Pinnacle Foods' Armour brand will be the primary sponsor for Kevin Harvick and the No. 5 JR Motorsports Chevrolet in three Nationwide Series races in 2014. It will also serve as an associate sponsor for Harvick and the No. 5 for the entire 33-race Nationwide schedule.

JRM announced last month the addition of Harvick to its 2014 driver lineup. Harvick, a two-time Nationwide Series champion and winner of 40 Nationwide Series races is expected to compete in at least 12 events for the organization in 2014.

"The way this has come together is very exciting for us," said Kelley Earnhardt Miller, general manager of JR Motorsports. "When we announced that Kevin will be driving for us in 2014, the response from the fans was truly awesome. He carries an immense competitive energy on the track, and as Pinnacle Foods knows he performs in the marketplace as well. We're happy to have them on board and look forward to going to work for their Armour brand.''

Harvick has won 77 times across NASCAR's three major touring series most notably the 2001 and 2006 Nationwide Series championships, 2007 Daytona 500, 2003 Brickyard 400, and the Coca Cola 600 in 2011 and 2013.

"This is a great opportunity for Pinnacle Foods and our Armour brand, as we're very excited to follow Kevin Harvick over to JR Motorsports," said Eric Hintz, vice president of marketing for Pinnacle Foods' Duncan Hines Grocery Division. "Our consumers love the partnership we have with Kevin, and we have brought it to life in-store as well with strong retail programs with our customers. We look forward to continuing to build on that success with JR Motorsports in 2014."

Keepin' It Short: A Weekend at the Beach
by Mike Neff

The racing schedule is winding down but the big races aren't over yet. One of the beautiful things about late season races is that they are usually in temperate climates that offer a break from the cold weather that is already creeping into the areas of the country that receive snow. This weekend there are two races taking place in the Carolinas that will offer fans a chance to get away from the cold and see some hot racing action before the season comes to an end. The PASS Super Late Models and Pro Late Models will be highlighting a card at Southern National Motorsports Park that will also include the Must See Xtreme Sprints, while the Whelen All-American Late Models will be running the Myrtle Beach 400 for the 21st year.

The PASS Southern Division will wrap up their season at Southern National with Jay Fogleman leading Kyle Grissom in the Super Late Model points. Fogleman, Grissom and Spencer Davis have run all 13 races on the Southern Schedule this season and Fogleman has the lead by 98 points over Grissom going into the final event. The word is that Fogleman is going to be taking a step back after this championship to work on mentoring younger drivers. In the Pro Late Models, Trevor Noles leads Jeff Batten by 52 points for the season title. Noles, Batten and Austin Reed have run all 11 races on the Pro schedule this year. Reed is only 68 points out of the top spot with this final race to go. Fogleman is also looking to be crowned the PASS National Champion after this weekend as he enters the track in Kenly, NC with a 30 point lead over DJ Shaw, who has not submitted an entry for the event yet and a 40 point lead over Joey Doiron.

In the support event at Southern National, the Must See Xtreme Sprints will be taking to the track for the first time in their history. For those who haven't seen them, they are a 410 sprint car that runs on asphalt. A 900 horsepower engine strapped into a 1300 pound car that will rip around an asphalt track like a slot car. They have previously run at Bristol and the video can be found on Youtube if you would like to get a taste.

For the Whelen All-American fans, the Myrtle Beach 400 is ready to take the green flag for the 21st time. The first two years of the event it was a Pro All-Stars race, but the last 17 years it has been a Late Model race. Frank Deiny, Jr. has won the event four times, including three in a row from 2004 – 2006. Last year's event was postponed and actually run in March of this year. Ben Rhodes led the field to the checkered flag under yellow but was penalized for rough driving after getting into Justin Milliken as the two raced into the first turn on the final lap. As a result, Anthony Anders was declared the winner. Anders will be back to defend his title and Rhodes and Milliken will be among the drivers trying to take the checkers before Anders.

Other notable drivers already entered in the 400 include 2013 Southern Super Series champion Daniel Hemric, two-time national champion Lee Pulliam driving for Kiker Motorsports for the first time, Matt McCall, 2013 UARA-STARS champion Dillon Bassett, Virginia is for Racing Lovers' 300 winner Tommy Lemons, Jr. and NASCAR national touring drivers Timothy Peters and David Ragan. The lineup is stacked with talent and the race will be a strategic battle thanks to the abrasive racing surface.

If you are in Eastern North Carolina or on the coast of South Carolina this weekend, check out some of the great racing action. You will not be disappointed.

FRONTSTRETCH TRIVIA:

Q: Sunday's Grand Prix of Brazil is the final Grand Prix of the season.  However, the season has not always ended in Brazil.  In 1997, the season ended in Spain at Jerez.  Jacques Villeneuve claimed his one and only World Championship here for Williams-Renault, but chaos broke out during the race for multiple reasons.  What happened?

Check back Monday, December 2nd for the answer, here in the Frontstretch Newsletter!

Thursday's Answer:

Q: The 2000 Grand Prix of Brazil was missing a couple of cars on the grid when the two Red Bull-sponsored Sauber Petronas cars were withdrawn on race morning.  Why did this happen?

A: Sauber was attempting to run a new rear wing configuration for the race.  Unfortunately, it turned out to be a complete failure.  The supports would give way, resulting in the rear wing flying and the car becoming uncontrollable.  It resulted in multiple incidents in practice and qualifying.  In the interest of safety, Sauber ended up withdrawing their cars for Mika Salo and Pedro Diniz on race morning.

Interestingly enough, this scenario actually became a feature in the video game F1 Career Challenge for the PlayStation 2 if a player chose to drive for Sauber in Career Mode.  The game would ask players to participate in a session where the team is testing new components.  You would barely be able to complete a lap before the wing flies off.
