B Sample Test Date Set For Allmendinger
Embattled driver AJ Allmendinger's "B" Sample has been granted a second look. According to Tara Ragan, Vice President of Walldinger Racing, the sample will be examined next week at the same laboratory that conducted the original test.
"We now have a confirmed date for the testing of AJ's "B" (split specimen) Sample. The test will take place on Tuesday, July 24 at 8:00 AM CDT and be conducted at the Aegis Analytical Laboratories in Nashville," Ragan said in a statement. "Pursuant to the 2012 NASCAR Rulebook and in line with the procedures, we have elected to have a designated independent toxicologist present on AJ's behalf."
"Along with everyone else, we are looking forward to hearing the results as quickly as possible. AJ and all of us at Walldinger Racing have truly appreciated the outpouring of support from our fans, partners, and colleagues," she continued. "It has meant a lot to us during this difficult time. We are also grateful to Mr. Penske and his management team for their patience and respect of the process we are going through."
While Roger Penske remains committed to Allmendinger's current one-year contract with the No. 22 team, it appears that Sam Hornish Jr. will continue to pilot the car – when available outside of his Nationwide Series schedule – until the issue is resolved. In an interview with SPEED, the team owner acknowledged that he hasn't given up hope in pursuing a contract extension with the driver if he is proven innocent, but also admitted that several options are in place if Allmendinger is suspended indefinitely.
Penske Signs Ryan Blaney to Nationwide Contract
Ryan Blaney, the 18-year-old son of Sprint Cup Series driver Dave Blaney, has signed a contract to drive the No. 22 Penske Racing Dodge for several remaining races this season in the Nationwide Series.
Blaney will make his debut with the team in the No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger at the Iowa Speedway event on August 4th. He will also compete in Nationwide races at Richmond (September 7th) and Kentucky (September 22nd).
Members of Penske Racing are ecstatic after acquiring the talented Blaney, a driver who has already seen success in NASCAR's penultimate series with a seventh-place run for Tommy Baldwin Racing at Richmond earlier this year.
"Ryan is a driver with a great racing pedigree and we believe he has a very bright future in NASCAR," said Tim Cindric, President of Penske Racing. "We've been keeping an eye on Ryan's development and we feel he'll be a great addition to the No. 22 Nationwide Series team."
Although his first appearance is still a few weeks away, Blaney seems ready to seize the opportunity he has with Penkse, an organization that has captured 90 wins and one championship in NASCAR's major series.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to drive for Penske Racing for the rest of this season," said Blaney. "With the team's strong tradition of success and the winning program they've established in the Nationwide Series, I believe I can learn a lot and hopefully we can produce some strong finishes in the No. 22 car."
Blaney has two other starts in the Nationwide Series this season--43rd at Darlington after being involved in a lap one crash and 15th at Kentucky.
Front Row Motorsports Partners With Big Machine Records
Big Machine Records has signed on to be a primary sponsor for David Gilliland and Front Row Motorsports for the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The No. 38 will feature several of the record label's main artists including: The Band Perry, Justin Moore, The Mavericks, Greg Bates and RaeLynn. Their presence on the car should serve as extra motivation for Gilliland, a huge country music enthusiast.
"I'm a big country music fan. It's really exciting to have some of the biggest names in country music on our No. 38 car at Indianapolis," Gilliland said. "I'm a big fan of all of Big Machine's artists. My daughter has recently turned me on to Taylor Swift and my wife and I have been longtime Rascal Flatts fans."
According to Front Row Motorsports, each of the artists will also be included in festivities that will take place at the track, a place where Big Machine Records will return to for the third time. The label was a sponsor on the late Dan Wheldon's 2011 Indianapolis 500 winning car and for Dario Franchitti in 2012.
"I've had the chance to sponsor a few great cars before and our company enjoys being part of the race weekends here at Indianapolis," said Scott Borchetta, CEO of Big Machine Records. "Front Row Motorsports came to us with a value-laden program that included a compelling idea for a social media promotion and we decided to take advantage of the opportunity."

What Have You Done For Me Lately?
Full Throttle
by Mike Neff
Roush Fenway Racing announced on Tuesday that Bob Osborne had stepped down off of the pit box for Carl Edwards after nearly nine years as the only crew chief Edwards has ever known. That makes room for Chad Norris to take over the helm of the No. 99 Ford with the daunting task of helping Edwards win his way into the Chase. Osborne cited health concerns as the main contributing factor to his decision but looking at it from the outside, the recent unrest and poor performance by race team most certainly has to play a role.
Edwards won the last two races during the 2010 season and ended up fourth in points. That run left everyone who was looking for someone to dethrone Jimmie Johnson looking toward Edwards as the likely candidate. He did not disappoint in 2011, racking up an impressive 19 top 5s and 26 top 10s, including three runner-up finishes to close out the season. As a result he tied for the series championship but lost the tiebreaker of most wins, having only notched one victory all season in the third race of the year. Having gone 33 races without a win to finish off 2011, the notorious runner-up jinx has haunted him for another 19 races in 2012, and the pressure has been continuously mounting on the Osborne / Edwards relationship. With Tuesday's announcement, it appears the pressure finally caused the duo to succumb.
Edwards sits 11th in the standings but, more importantly, is 54 points outside of the top 10 which means, barring a tremendous rebound over the final seven races before the Chase, his only chance is to win and score a wildcard berth. While it might not seem like a tall order for a driver who ended up tied for the title last season, it is a tough row to hoe for Edwards the way he's run this season. He has just two top-5 finishes, but they were both fifth place finishes and the last one occurred at Las Vegas in the fifth race of the season. He only has one top 10 since May and that was a ninth at Daytona.
Osborne and Edwards have always been a bit of an odd couple. The gregarious Edwards is constantly glad handing with the media and ribbing Osborne on the radio while Osborne, tremendously talented and intelligent, is as quiet and unassuming as anyone in the garage. However, for almost nine years, it has worked. From 2005 through 2010, the duo notched 18 wins and had the remarkably consistent run to the title tie last year. However, the scrutiny by fans and especially media over the conservative approach last season that ultimately cost the team the title very well added some pressure to the situation. Pile on that the team has had some poor finishes, some bad pit calls and some obvious tension, and the end result is Osborne gets reassigned into the management team at RFR.
As Norris climbs into the hot seat, he doesn't do it without some credentials. He has led a team in one Cup race, with Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. this year. He's also headed up 50 Nationwide races that have accounted for three wins and 30 top-10 finishes. He has most recently led the R&D efforts at RFR. With chemistry being such a critical element of racing success, and generally taking some time to develop, it will be a daunting task for Norris, but apparently it is a shot that Roush is willing to take with whom many consider to be his top driver.
Loyalty is a rare trait in the world of racing and, as we've already seen this season, it is rare at RFR. Osborne has led Edwards to four top 5 point finishes in seven full seasons in the Cup series, including the tie last season, but just 19 races into this year he's off of the box. It very well could be Osborne's choice, and who could blame him, but hopefully Edwards and Roush will take some heat for the poor performance in 2012 and not lump it all on Bob's shoulders. If Edwards does rebound and win a couple of races to make the Chase, it will be at least partly due to the efforts of Osborne, even if he didn't do much of anything lately.

Tweet 'N' Greet
by Summer Bedgood
Editor's Note: With the NASCAR Twitter community expanding by leaps and bounds, it remains a place for instantaneous news, reactions, and a whole lot of inside jokes. We understand if you don't want to join the Twitter community - but as a fan, it's important to know the news and info you're missing out on! That's why, every week, Summer Bedgood will sort through the thousands of messages and give us a little taste of what's going on each Wednesday.
So, without further ado, here's a look at what those in NASCAR were thinking over the past seven days...
@kadinger17: (Karen Allmendinger): One thing I can state without a doubt in my mind is that @AJDinger would never ever take an illegal drug #SupportAJ"
@MrsCrewChief (Dana Wilson): I've seen some very happy, relaxed photos of my friends @KevinHarvick & @delanaharvick. So very happy for you 2, can't wait to meet Keelan.
@joeylogano: Today is officially my day in Middletown CT http://instagram.com/p/M8ZNh2olBV/
@shanamayfield: @kadinger17: We are thinking of you guys! Hang in there!
@AllWaltrip (Darrell Waltrip): It's amazing when NASCAR finds a rule violation whether on purpose or by accident it always seem to help the car not hurt the car!
@JennaFryer: NEWS: AJ's business manager says AJ tested positive for a stimulant.
@JennaFryer: "AJ is collecting his medicines and supplemants for testing to determine whether an over the counter product" caused positive.
@JennaFryer: "Our understanding is that AJ's test was slightly above the threshold." They do not know when B test will take place.
@nateryan: Stimulants listed as prohibited substances in #nascar rulebook include amphetamine, methamphetamine, Ecstasy (MDMA), Eve (MDEA), MDA, PMA.
@nateryan: Also listed in #nascar rulebook under stimulants that are prohibited: Phentermine and other amphetamine derivatives and related compounds.
@shanamayfield: Zero tolerance means there is no threshold, any detection is automatic failure. That's how it was explained to us.
@bobpockrass: For those asking about energy drinks, remember this: #NASCAR has never suspended anyone, as far as I know, for too much of an energy drink.
@Writer_Amy (Amy Henderson): Danica Patrick says she discusses every supplement or vitamin she takes with personal trainer.
@SherryPollex: We rent out her cleaning services...not sure how sanitary they are but she's a good pre-rinse cycle :) https://twitter.com/SherryPollex/status/223783501751783424/photo/1
@DNewtonESPN (David Newton): #NASCAR @KevinHarvick said having baby was best moment of his life. Congrats. #nascar

@nateryan: Mission Control for Mike Mulhern at New Hampshire. He's typed on both laptops simultaneously. #nascar http://twitpic.com/a75p4d
@DeLanaHarvick: #nodrugs tks 2 @KevinHarvick RT @nascarnation: Saying "dad waited 2 long to take @DeLanaHarvick 2 the hospital" #NASCAR
@shanamayfield: No RT @TuckDaddy48: @shanamayfield Was Jeremy afforded the same opportunity to have experts present at his B sample test that AJ was?
@ClaireBLang: Carl Edwards says drivers should get together and have their own testing grp to tandem test along w nascars test for extra insurance
@nateryan: Carl Edwards got randomly tested at Daytona last week. Says it can be an intimidating process walking into the room. #Nascar
@scottspeed: For it! RT @jeff_gluck: Carl Edwards calls for two different labs to do drug tests: One chosen by #NASCAR, one chosen by drivers as a group.
@jim_utter: Sure sounded like Carl Edwards advocated the creation of a driver's union #NASCAR
@shanamayfield: Well maybe now that one of their "cash cows" suggest it they will now listen RT @MerrilyBullard: "@jeff_gluck: Edwards calls for two different labs to do drug tests: One chosen by #NASCAR, one chosen by drivers as a group.@shanamayfield
@jeff_gluck: Tony Stewart says Army's decision to leave team was "a little bit of a surprise," but knew it was a possibility. #NASCAR
@AllWaltrip: we all want to think the best but, cars are illegal and test results are actuate, never had anyone admit they were wrong, plenty of excuses!
@keselowski (Brad Keselowski): IMO True success in any form of athletics should not be achieved from taking supplements but from skill, heart & work ethic to win.
@Lindyhornaday: Ron getting ready to make another run https://twitter.com/Lindyhornaday/status/223924379636088833/photo/1
@keselowski: last point about drug testing- I'm against performance enhancing supplements in sports. Not to be confused with modern meds, Dr.s etc.
@KevinHarvick: scrabble!! "@Ms5tyme: @kevinharvick, how did u and @delanaharvick come up with the name keelan?"
@KevinHarvick: yes he was actually!! He's been a big help! "@HHinsonPhoto: Giving Dad advice? @JimmieJohnson @KevinHarvick http://pic.twitter.com/3XbNhstL"
@DNewtonESPN: Just ran into Bruton Smith at restaurant. Must be a nice place. #NASCAR
@nascarcasm: @DNewtonespn Or he wants to change the menu entirely.
@CharlieDaniels: I have it on excellent authority that the National Guard's sponsorship of Nascar has been very effective in recruiting. IT SHOULD CONTINUE
@shanmayfield: According to an article written by David Geier, "keselowski took Motrin to help ease the pain and doctors even drained fluid from his foot during a delay in the race.'
@shanamayfield: They need to be..RT @mikemulhern @jeff_gluck these drivers here are nervous, very, very nervous. dont know what the aj deal really is, & they dont either. they're nervous
@jim_utter: This whole supplement deal is going to look really silly one day soon. #truth
@heymartysnider (Marty Snider): Looks like I will not be in NH this Sun. Sitting in the hospital in ALT. Been struggling with a fever that spiked at 105 last night. Not fun
@KellyBires: We're in!!!! So many ppl to thank for this opportunity! Long hard week of work paid off by everyone at @GoGreenRacing. First Cup start! #fb
jim_utter: "Not having access to the test, I would only be speculating as to whether it made (Allmendinger's) test positive." In other words garbage
@DGodfatherMoody (Dave Moody): @jim_utter So sorry I dont measure up to your lofty standards, Jim. Does your phone work? Or is speaking in person beneath you?

@JeffGordonWeb: Watching NNS race. Pretty good sign of what we'll be dealing with tomorrow. Very tough to pass!
@TheKBShow: I'm going to look for pennies on tails, and break a mirror. Role reversal on the luck thing. If it works tomorrow, u can thank me then.

@JeffGordonWeb: I'll b sure to ask @KevinHarvick not to take out his frustrations from today on the "24" tomorrow.
@nascarcasm: Despite her assistance, don't expect Brad to thank Amber Cope. As he clearly stated yesterday, he doesn't think drivers should be enhanced.
@Regan_Smith_: If I was in @KevinHarvick shoes I'm not sure that I woulda kept my cool that well in the interview.

@DNewtonESPN: #NASCAR @TimCindric said @Keselowski's comment that Allmendinger had basically "death sentence'' regardless of B test result was "harsh.''
@DNewtonESPN: #NASCAR @TimCindric said the phone at Penske Racing from prospective drivers has lit up since Allmendinger was suspended.
@KevinHarvick: Everyone did a great job today unfortunate that it came down to a lap car costing us the race... #thatsracing

@jim_utter: From AJ's biz folks: "We have elected to have a designated independent toxicologist present on AJ's behalf. " #NASCAR
@JennaFryer: Partial answer to "Why so long?" because in electing to bring his own toxicologist, he had to find one, hire one, coordinate a test date.
@DeLanaHarvick: Man I thought @KevinHarvick drove slow before Keelan!! We're out and about today and an old lady just blew by us!!! #pickupthepacepops
@AmberAngelaCope: We appreciate all the support from our fans, Amber learned a lot on the track and off. We will see you all at our next NNS race. #NASCAR
@DGodfatherMoody: The point of testing a driver's "B" sample is not to do it fast. It's to do it RIGHT! With a career at stake, we can wait another week
@TheOrangeCone: If you need proof that hashtags are better when they aren't "curated" with their own "algorithm" go check out #ChadNorrisFacts
@JennaFryer: Asked on Sirius why the AJ process is taking so long, @TimCindric compares AJ's situation to "being down to the last pitch." #NASCAR
@ivandebosch: I did not go on the Rwanda this time, I stayed home with Ella and Leo. I have a rendez vous with Papa in the south of France in a few day's.
@ivandebosch (Ingrid Vandebosch): So proud of my husband for all the good he is doing in the world! He is an amazing man with a heart of gold.
@nateryan: One nugget in Allmendinger story: #nascar confirmed he could appeal an indefinite suspension to the National Stock Car Racing Appeals Panel.
@bobpockrass: Just took closeup look at @55MarkMartin avatar & realized it's his upcoming Cup schedule ... guess he gets asked that a lot. #nascar

FRONTSTRETCH TRIVIA:
Q: This weekend, Formula One returns to the Hockenheimring for the Grand Prix of Germany. The current circuit was first used in 2002. However, the older circuit provided a completely different type of racing. Why?
Check back Thursday for the answer, here in the Frontstretch Newsletter!
Tuesday's Answer:
Tuesday's Answer:
Q: Prior to the 2010 Izod IndyCar Series race in Edmonton, Milka Duno, who was driving for Dale Coyne Racing at the time, was placed on probation. Why did this occur?
A: For lack of better words, because she was screwing up on track habitually. Duno's skills in an IndyCar had begun to regress and she was becoming a danger (or even more of one, depending on who you ask) to other drivers out on the track. Multiple times that season, Duno was black flagged and parked in races. In other events, she spun out very early (in St. Petersburg, she managed to spin out and stall on the pace lap). Around that time, there was a #parkmilka hashtag that had gained traction on Twitter. The series couldn't really park Duno because it was well-known that Duno's backing from CITGO was basically propping up Coyne's team. If Duno were parked, Coyne likely would have pulled both Duno and Alex Lloyd's entries out since CITGO would undoubtedly leave the team and Lloyd's team didn't have enough funding to race by themselves.
Duno has since transitioned to stock cars and is currently full-time in the ARCA Racing Series. She's had some flashes of good form, but is still far from being a contender.
