1936 (accepting 1935-37). (George V, Edward VIII, George VI.)
4 for Joshua, Erland, Peter, Stephen, Calvin, and Jeff. 3 for Pete.

Some earlier years might be possible if we had said
"England", but the question specified the UK.

> 2. When Canada had three Prime Ministers in the same year.

1896 (Bowell, Tupper, Laurier); 1984 (Trudeau, Turner, Mulroney);
1993 (Mulroney, Campbell, Chrtien). 3 for Stephen.

1936-39. 4 for Joshua (the hard way), Erland, Peter, Marc, Stephen,
Calvin, Pete, Dan, Bjrn, and Rob.

> 4. When the British were at war with the Boers.

1880-81, 1899-1902. 4 for Joshua (the hard way again), Erland,
Peter, Stephen, Calvin, Pete, Bjrn, and Rob.

> 5. When the present Canadian Pacific Railway company had its

1881-86. 4 for Erland. 2 for Stephen.

1954-63. 4 for Stephen.

> 7. When Canada had exactly 6 provinces.

1871-73. 4 for Bjrn. 2 for Stephen.

1776-89, 1812-17, 1832-33, 1841-45, 1850-57, 1865-69, 1875-77,
1881-89, 1899-1905, 1912-13, 1923-25, 1945-49, 1963-65, 1973-74.
4 for Joshua, Erland, Peter, Marc, Stephen, Jeff, Pete, Dan, Bjrn,
and Rob.

(First the era before the Constitution was in use; and then
any time *either* the VP or the president died or resigned.
Before 1967 when the 25th amendment was passed, the period
continued from that moment until the inauguration following the
next election; now it ends when a replacement VP is confirmed.)

> 9. When a US election for president is known to have been won
> by a candidate who did not finish first in the popular vote.

1824, 1876, 1888, 2000. 4 for Joshua, Peter, Marc, Stephen, Jeff,
Pete, and Dan.

(For elections before 1824, the popular votes were not tabulated,
so it's not known whether this ever happened then.)

> 10. When a space shuttle was destroyed in an accident.

1986, 2003 (accepting 1985-87 or 2002-04). 4 for everyone -- Joshua,
Erland, Peter, Marc, Stephen (the hard way), Calvin, Jeff, Pete,
Dan, Bjrn, and Rob.

This was the hardest round in the original game.

> 1. Old Testament: "And if any man's seed of copulation go out
> from him, then he shall wash all his flesh in water, and be
> unclean until the even."

Leviticus (15:16). 4 for Joshua, Peter, Marc, Jeff, Dan, and Rob.
3 for Pete. 2 for Stephen.

> 2. Old Testament: "Let the day perish wherein I was born, and
> the night in which it was said, There is a man child

Job (3:3). 4 for Erland, Stephen, and Pete. 3 for Rob.

> 3. New Testament: "And I saw in the right hand of him that
> sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside,
> sealed with seven seals."

Revelation (5:1). I accepted "Revelations", but don't try that
answer if you ever get on "Jeopardy!"; they won't. 4 for Joshua,
Erland, Peter, Stephen, Jeff, Pete, Dan, Bjrn, and Rob.

> 4. New Testament: "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among
> us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only
> begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."

John (1:14). 4 for Joshua, Peter, Stephen, and Pete. 3 for Dan.

> 5. Old Testament: "And I will execute great vengeance upon them
> with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the Lord,
> when I shall lay my vengeance upon them."

Ezekiel (25:17). (A version of this was used to great effect in the
movie "Pulp Fiction".) 4 for Joshua, Marc, and Dan. 3 for Stephen.

> 6. Old Testament: "Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth:
> for thy love is better than wine."

Song of Solomon (or Song of Songs) (1:2). One or the other full
name was required. 4 for Joshua, Peter, Marc, Stephen, and Dan.

> 7. New Testament: "When I was a child, I spake as a child, I
> understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I
> became a man, I put away childish things."

1st Corinthians (13:11). The book number was not required.
4 for Joshua, Stephen, and Rob. 2 for Pete and Dan.

> 8. New Testament: "But Paul said, I am a man which am a Jew
> of Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city:
> and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people."

Acts (of the Apostles) (21:39). I scored "Apostles" as almost
correct. 4 for Joshua, Erland, Peter, and Stephen.

> 9. Old Testament: "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the
> counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners,
> nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful."

Psalms (1:1). 4 for Peter, Marc, Stephen, and Pete.

Ecclesiastes (2:11). 4 for Joshua and Dan.

since you specified the KJV Bible, wouldn't there be only 1 correct answer?

why wasn't the book # required? is it in both?

The KJV was the source of the specific version of the pasages, but
we didn't specify that the books had to be named as given in it.

Because it was a brutally hard round and I was looking for ways to
give entrants the players a break. Who the hell knows anything about
the Bible?

Now it's time for the final Current Events round from the season
just ended, from the Final. There are 15 questions in 5 groups.

These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2011-07-25,
and should be interpreted accordingly. If any answers have
changed due to newer news, you are still expected to give the
answers that were correct on that date.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting,
quote the questions and place your answer below each one.)
I will reveal the correct answers in about 3 days. For further
information see my 2011-05-23 companion posting on "Questions
from the Canadian Inquisition (QFTCI5GNM, QFTCI11, QFTCIMM)".

All questions were written by members of the Misplaced Modifiers,
and are used here by permission, but have been reformatted and
may have been retyped and/or edited by me.

Commission and a 3-year-old Auditor General's report urging
