Inhoud & opzet van de studiedag:

Hoewel de menselijke soort onbetwistbaar intelligent is, valt evenmin te ontkennen dat we bijzonder kwetsbaar zijn voor irrationalisme.


Ook in de 21ste eeuw, ondanks de aantoonbare betrouwbaarheid van de wetenschappelijke methodes, blijven talloos veel mensen geloof hechten aan pseudowetenschap, bijgeloof, complottheorieën en dergelijke meer.


De voorbije jaren verschenen diverse publicaties waarin wordt uiteengezet hoe we ons kritisch denken, of onze cognitieve weerbaarheid tegen irrationalisme, kunnen verbeteren.


Deze studiedag wil hiertoe haar steentje bijdragen, vanuit de invalshoek van de goochelkunst, het illusionisme en mentalisme. Goochelaars en illusionisten slagen er dankzij diverse technieken in om ons te misleiden, zelfs om de indruk te wekken dat er bovennatuurlijke krachten aan het werk zijn.


Al te vaak gaan ook intelligente, zelfs wetenschappelijk geschoolde mensen verklaringen zoeken voor de performances van illusionisten of mentalisten die volkomen onkritisch zijn.


Goochelaars weten onze cognitief kwetsbare plekken te vinden. Ze kennen de zwaktes van onze zintuigen en ons geheugen, en ze weten op welke diverse manieren ze onze zoektocht naar verklaringen de mist kunnen insturen.


Tijdens de studiedag wordt dit alles zowel theoretisch als praktisch geïllustreerd, op wetenschappelijk verantwoorde maar ook entertainende wijze. 


'Het illuseum' doet een boekje open over de manipulatietechniek van de goochelaar.

U als toeschouwer probeert zo goed mogelijk getuige te zijn van de verrichtingen door de goochelaar op zijn podium. Op het einde van de truc moet u meestal toegeven dat u gefopt bent. Waar is het misgegaan?


Uw zintuigen en uw brein zijn inderdaad misleid.  Welke middelen gebruikt de goochelaar om dat te bewerkstelligen? Heeft u niet goed gekeken? Heeft u niet kritisch nagedacht? Indien niet zintuiglijk bedot door een visuele illusie, of niet door een beperking van de aandacht, heeft het brein verkeerde conclusies getrokken op basis van verwachtingen, automatismen, taalsturing, redeneerfouten, ...


Daarover gaat het. Een up-to-date cursus in cognitieve psychologie.
